I got the opportunity of a lifetime! I went home to speak as an alum of twenty years at Essex County College. In honor of Women’s History Month, I was to speak about Women’s health issues.

It was truly and honor to speak to a generation of eXcellent students. To see those minds filled with optimism, excitement and positive expectation of a bright future was inspiring. These kids are the future I believe will make this world a better place to live in.

We talk about an African Holistic aspects of health. Where we comprise health, wealth, and spiritual inspiration to live a healthy life. We talk about the greatest medicine of them all, love. They got it on the first try when I asked them the question. I have asked that question to numerous audiences and they never got it.

These young people got it go’in on! You do not have to worry about the future generation. They know that love can heal cancer, aids, high blood pressure and diabetes. Loves heals relationships and loves brings you closer to your divine spirit. It does not matter what disease that is going on via the mind, body and spirit, love is the panacea we are all looking for.

The students at Essex County College were dynamite.The love they gave to me I felt and the love I gave to them will last until I see them next year to spread more love.

So, let’s heal our lives by giving more love to each other every day. Love truly makes the world go round!

I am a single mother of a 14 y/o young man and I must admit that I too must began to let go and let my son find out things without me trying to protect him from the world because I do still see him as my baby. But my question is how long should I let him fall? I have worked hard to provide my son with things without the support of his father, but it seems the more I try to protect, the more defiant he becomes. He has even begun to disregard his school work.

 He was placed in advanced level classes and now he does none of his work no matter how supportive I try to be. I only wish that my son will become a successful person in this world and maybe someday take care of his mother if possible, but at this rate it doesn’t look too good. Help me please!

 Dear Diva:
Have you told your son you love him today and have you given him a hug. You are in fear with your relationship with your son because of the fear you have about men in general.  You are putting a heavy burden on him to be the man in your life and he is resenting the responsibility.  You should not depend on him or any man to take care of you when you get older. Your well being is your responsibility for the rest of your life.  Treat you the way you want your son to treat you. This is a fear based relationship and very controlling on your part. There is a saying to heal the child, heal the parent.  I think it is a good idea for you to get spiritual counseling. 

 It is okay. No one comes into this earth with directions on how to best raise a child. You have depended on you solely to take on the responsibility and now you do need help. Do the spiritual work. Let go and let God with your son. Take the time to dig deep inside of you to find the answers as to how you feel about men. I will assure you, you are treating the men in your life the way you son is treating you.  Children present to us our deepest and darkest stuff.
Take the time to love and honor yourself. See yourself as having done a fine job raising your son. And get rid of the guilt and shame of having to raise him alone.  Get rid of the anger, resentment and fear towards your father and his father. He does love you and he does care about you. But it is very important that you help your son and not enable him. The best way to help him is to help yourself.

Mothers all need help and we have to becoming very comfortable of receiving help. We do not have to do it all or know it all.

I apologize for not keeping my blog updated lately, but I had a family emergency. My grandmother had a heart attack. I had to rush home to be with her for some time to let her know that I cared and was going to support her through this experience.

Moreover, I had to administer the greatest medicine of them all when it comes to heart disease for women-LOVE!  And where there is LOVE, there is GOD. God, the greatest physician of them all, was making a hospital call to Mildred Ferebee.

Unfortunately, the hospitals, the nurses, the dieticians and the pharmaceutical companies can not give the LOVE that spirit, family, friends and ministers bring to aid those that have heart disease. 

We take for granted the healing power of love. Each organ of the body has an emotional compliment. For the dis-eased heart, it is a feeling of not getting enough love-from ourselves and from others.

Most Black women-and women in general-give so much love to others that we tend to neglect ourselves and we allow others to take us for granted. Lack of love is killing black women today.

I know this is not standard procedure, but I recommend a strong dosage of love that women need to give to themselves and forgive those who have not given enough love to them. It is time for black women to heal their hearts. To give themselves the time to pay attention to themselves and give themselves the time to heal the wounds that has transcended that immediate family to the world family-since we take the weight of the world and put it on our shoulders.

Black Women let go and let God…..heal your heart today with lots and lots and lots of love! You deserve it.

And if anyone has not told you today that they love you, let me be the first…I love you,Diva and I want you to heal your heart.

P.S. Let the symbol for black women to heal your heart be a pink heart. We have to honor that the number one disease that is killing black women today is heart disease which is cleverly disguised as a lack of love.
